It’s that time of year when you get snow and ice where we live in Sheffield in the north of England. As I mentioned before in car-free-dom it’s great to wrap up warm and get out and enjoy the winter weather.
If you are on foot and it is icy then you don’t want to fall over and hurt yourself. Particularly where we are in a hilly city it can be very tricky at times to stay on your feet.

A great thing we discovered a few years back are ice grips to attach to your shoes when it is icy. I’m not on a sales commission here – but ice grips (ice cleats or ice grippers) we have found to be pretty essential.
Sticking on your ice grips when the conditions are not great gives us confidence that we’re not about to slip and land on our bums. The grips we have are not expensive, and you do see quite a few people wearing them around here, but it does amaze me that many people don’t bother and slip and slide around the place.
So if you are looking for a bit of help to get around in your car-free-dom in some of the worst winter conditions track down a pair of ice grips so you can confidently stay on your feet and enjoy all-weather walking.
