Clean boots

In my car-free-dom I do think about my feet quite a lot. Well you need to look after them as they are crucial to getting around!

Previously I have blogged about the dilemmas of findings comfy shoes as well as some ways to help to avoid getting sore feet. One thing you can do that can really help to keep your feet in good shape (declaimer – I am not a podiatrist!) is when you find good shoes or boots look after them.

For going walking all year round a good pair of comfy walking/hiking boots is key. There are no easy ways to find your perfect boot – as from experience the perfect boot does not exist! But when you do find a good pair of boots you want to keep them going for as long as possible.

It might not feel so exciting but cleaning your boots should make a big difference to their life. If your boots are synthetic getting the mud off helps stop the fabric degrading too quickly. Or, if they are leather cleaning and waxing will stop them drying out and cracking at any early age.

If you’re back from a decent walk / hike it might feel like the last thing you want to do is give your boots a bit of a clean. I can rarely manage it, but within a day or so of wearing them just take that five minutes to clean up your boots.

So there you have it – for keeping your car-free-dom – take a bit of time to look after your boots and you should be helping your feet so they can keep you car-free in getting from A-to-B!
